As we approach the end of term and, I hope for all of us, some time with our friends and families, I reflect on another successful and exciting term. I would like to thank all of you that have committed to helping our growing need to be mindful and thoughtful of how we travel to school. The new drop off outside the school has worked well and I am looking at further options to ease traffic as we move into next year. As you will have seen from the evaluation I sent to you all, our second year of operation was full of a great many achievements for our students and the school as a whole…..
National Day this year celebrated the 48th year of the United Arab Emirates and we, at NLCS, explored the amazing food, traditions, history and costume of the wonderful country that we now all call home.
Outside, students and teachers were met with a collection of falcons, all of whom were happy to take part in photo shoots and sit patently in Budge Square. It was lovely to see one of our own Emirati students from Grade 8 bring in his own falcon this year…..
In response to a need among families here in Dubai, the School announced this term that it is increasing its choice of Modern Foreign Languages for 2019/2020. The MFL department is set to grow and we look forward to offering German as a new option for Grades 1 – 9…..
It wasn’t only our students who continued to achieve wonderful things this term, the School itself reach another milestone with the award of IB Continuum School status. We are incredibly proud of our body of staff who have worked tirelessly over the last two years to achieve this goal.
Enriching student life
A big part of our school life at NLCS Dubai is the ever expanding range of ECAs that are on offer, and notably the Junior and Senior Societies. We were delighted to now be an authorised centre for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award: an internationally recognised programme that gives great opportunities for personal growth and is a definite plus on students’ CVs…..
We were also delighted to be able to host our annual Iftar event in school and bring together those families joining our community, for this special occasion. It was a privilege to be able to share this important meal with people from a number of different nationalities and cultures…..
House competitions and more
Anyone who has been at NLCS Dubai for any length of time will know that we take our House competitions very seriously! Spread throughout the year, these events are eagerly awaited, and Term 3 was the chance for Yibir, Jais, Hafeet and Javi to face-off in Basketball, Swimming and Rounders, as well as the grand finale to the year – House Drama!…..
Junior School and beyond
This all sounds like a busy term; however, the Junior School still found time for learning! Right across the School, our passionate teachers and classroom assistants have been making lessons fun with innovative ideas to support the students within their Units of Inquiry. The First School Role-Model assemblies were a real highlight this term, with both teachers and students talking about people who have both influenced their lives and whom they admire…..
The IB curriculum encourages a well-rounded education and there can be no doubt of the artistic talent we have in school. Musically, we now have several ensembles and orchestras and the school community has been treated to afternoon and evening concerts this term, showcasing some of the musical talent that we have at NLCS Dubai. The recent Summer concert was a highlight, involving no less than 56 students performing…..
Talking of finishing on a high, this brings to an end our summary of Term 3. We wish you safe travels and happy holidays, and look forward to seeing you refreshed and ready for the new year in September.
