In sitting down to write this, my final newsletter introduction, I am reminded of the pop classic ‘Say hello, wave goodbye’ (nicely covered by David Gray some years ago). Partly, in that Mr Monaghan and I are going to share this introduction, so as I wave goodbye, he says hello. Partly in that the time I have spent here in Dubai, these three years, seems to have whizzed past in the blink of an eye – and as one minute I was meeting so many of you as prospective parents, I now, moments later it seems, wave goodbye.....

Let’s start at the beginning

Term 3 kicked off with the return of our Senior School students from overseas trips to Nepal and Europe. The Nepal trip was two-fold in its aims as a cultural introduction to this fascinating country but also for the students to carry out a project as part of their 'Service as Action' in the MYP and 'Creativity, Activity and Service' work for the IB Diploma.....

Growth

In response to a need among families here in Dubai, the School announced this term that it is increasing its choice of Modern Foreign Languages for 2019/2020. The MFL department is set to grow and we look forward to offering German as a new option for Grades 1 – 9.....

Our School

It wasn’t only our students who continued to achieve wonderful things this term, the School itself reach another milestone with the award of IB Continuum School status. We are incredibly proud of our body of staff who have worked tirelessly over the last two years to achieve this goal.

Enriching student life

A big part of our school life at NLCS Dubai is the ever expanding range of ECAs that are on offer, and notably the Junior and Senior Societies. We were delighted to now be an authorised centre for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award: an internationally recognised programme that gives great opportunities for personal growth and is a definite plus on students’ CVs.....

Community events

We were also delighted to be able to host our annual Iftar event in school and bring together those families joining our community, for this special occasion. It was a privilege to be able to share this important meal with people from a number of different nationalities and cultures.....

House competitions and more

Anyone who has been at NLCS Dubai for any length of time will know that we take our House competitions very seriously! Spread throughout the year, these events are eagerly awaited, and Term 3 was the chance for Yibir, Jais, Hafeet and Javi to face-off in Basketball, Swimming and Rounders, as well as the grand finale to the year – House Drama!.....

Junior School and beyond

This all sounds like a busy term; however, the Junior School still found time for learning! Right across the School, our passionate teachers and classroom assistants have been making lessons fun with innovative ideas to support the students within their Units of Inquiry. The First School Role-Model assemblies were a real highlight this term, with both teachers and students talking about people who have both influenced their lives and whom they admire.....

The arts

The IB curriculum encourages a well-rounded education and there can be no doubt of the artistic talent we have in school. Musically, we now have several ensembles and orchestras and the school community has been treated to afternoon and evening concerts this term, showcasing some of the musical talent that we have at NLCS Dubai. The recent Summer concert was a highlight, involving no less than 56 students performing.....
