The Sixth Form (Grade 11) opened in September 2018, with our first cohort of students progressing into their final year of studies, Grade 12, in September 2019. NLCS Dubai is an authorised School for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP), a rigorous and challenging qualification that is highly regarded by the world’s leading universities.
Recognised for its broad yet highly academic curriculum, the IB Diploma is made up of six subject groups. Students must take one subject from each group, with three subjects pursued at Higher Level and three at Standard Level (in certain circumstances a student may be allowed to take four Higher Level subjects). Students may opt, for their Group 6 choice, to do a second subject from Group 2, Group 3 or Group 4, instead of an Arts subject.
In addition to their subjects, all students pursue the ‘core’, this consists of three elements: the Theory of Knowledge programme the Extended Essay (a 4000 word extended piece of research into a subject of their choosing) and a minimum of 150 hours of Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) during their two years of study.
A total of 45 points are available in the IB Diploma Programme, with each of the six Group subjects awarding a maximum of 7 points, and a further three points available through the ’core’.
