International Baccalaureate Diploma Programe (IBDP)

HomeInternational Baccalaureate Diploma Programe (IBDP)

The Sixth Form (Grade 11)  opened in September 2018, with our first cohort of students progressing into their final year of studies, Grade 12, in September 2019. NLCS Dubai is an authorised School for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP), a rigorous and challenging qualification that is highly regarded by the world’s leading universities.

Recognised for its broad yet highly academic curriculum, the IB Diploma is made up of six subject groups. Students must take one subject from each group, with three subjects pursued at Higher Level and three at Standard Level (in certain circumstances a student may be allowed to take four Higher Level subjects). The six subject groups are:

  • Group 1: Language and Literature
  • Group 2: Language Acquisition
  • Group 3: Individuals and Societies
  • Group 4: Sciences
  • Group 5: Mathematics
  • Group 6: The Arts

Students may opt, for their Group 6 choice, to do a second subject from Group 2, Group 3 or Group 4, instead of an Arts subject.

In addition to their subjects, all students pursue the ‘core’, this consists of three elements: the Theory of Knowledge programme the Extended Essay (a 4000 word extended piece of research into a subject of their choosing) and a minimum of 150 hours of Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) during their two years of study.

A total of 45 points are available in the IB Diploma Programme, with each of the six Group subjects awarding a maximum of 7 points, and a further three points available through the ’core’.

We are delighted that our students once again achieved excellent results in the challenging and enriching International Baccalaureate qualification with an average score of 37.2 points. These results place our students as the top performers in the Middle East region for a third consecutive year. A wonderful reward for the efforts devoted by whole NLCS community. Congratulations to everyone. nil

We are proud to announce our International Baccalaureate Diploma results for 2022. They are testament to the hard work of everyone in our school community. As we celebrate their excellent academic success, we are most proud of who they have become as young men and women, developing the character and attributes that have led to these successes. Whilst academic excellence is a core part of our ethos here at NLCS Dubai, they have contributed so much more to our school community as role models to our younger students, setting the standard for others to follow in their footsteps. We would like to express our gratitude to our teachers and parent community who have played a critical role in helping the Class of 2022 achieve their ambitious goals against one of the most challenging set of circumstances. Congratulations to everyone.
We are very proud to announce our International Baccalaureate Diploma results for 2021. Building on the success of our first graduating cohort in 2020, the Class of 2021 have achieved an impressive average score of 40 points which is 7 points above the world average. Every NLCS Dubai student taking the IBDP this year scored at least 35 points with the top score being a ‘perfect’ 45 points. These outstanding results mean that our students have met the conditions of their offers for a whole host of prestigious universities all over the world in the UK, USA, Canada, South Korea, UAE and beyond. This includes Ivy League College, Columbia University and the University of California, Los Angeles in the US, the London School of Economics and Political Science, University College London (UCL), St Andrews and Durham University in the UK to name but a few.
