The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is the curriculum framework for students aged three to 11 at NLCS Dubai. The PYP prepares students for the intellectual challenges of Secondary education and for their future careers and lives, focusing on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and the world beyond.
The PYP encourages independent learning, prompting each pupil to ask questions and follow their interests. The programme incorporates local and global issues into the curriculum, constantly challenging students to think beyond their own experiences to the wider world and see things from other perspectives. Learning is structured around six trans-disciplinary themes: Who we are, Where we are in place and time, How we express ourselves, How the world works, How we organise ourselves and Sharing the planet; carefully planned units of work explore concepts and content which connect across these themes, as well as ensuring progression of knowledge and skills as students move through the Junior School towards their Secondary schooling.
