Congratulations to Laila and Maitha, Grade 10 students, who competed in the South Asian Taekwondo Championship in India, Hyderabad during the summer. There were over 25 countries competing. The UAE team got a special invite to compete. For this championship, Laila achieved 2nd place (Silver) for sparring. Maitha achieved 2nd place (Silver) for sparring and 3rd place (Bronze) for special techniques.
As they both achieved Silver medals in the South Asian championship, they qualified for the 2023 Taekwondo World Championship in Kazakhstan, Astana. There were over 86 countries competing. Laila and Maitha reached the semi-finals.
‘’One of the greatest highlights of our experience was the thrill to represent our country, the UAE, on the highest level. The opportunity to meet and compete against extremely skilled athletes from all around the world was amazing. Winning medals on an international stage has also given us a strong sense of pride for representing our country. We also enjoyed working with our coaches on personal growth, improved skill and the experience has overall given us lifelong memories,’’ said Laila and Maitha, Grade 10 students.
