Kindness
One of the core values of a NLCS Dubai student is being kind. This term we celebrated Kindness Week in the Senior School with a focus on affirmation and being generous, which we linked to our charity fundraising efforts for Dubai Cares. Students were asked to make their mark on our Kindness Mural and these donations combined with our previous efforts this year, has increased our total fundraising to twenty thousand dirhams!
Next term, we will be seeking new ways to have fun whilst giving, not only money but also our time as volunteers.
This term we also had a visit from the Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Initiative, who assist women in poorer nations with healthcare and education via a sustainable and not-for-profit weaving operation. Students were able to learn about the intricate weaving process but also about the impact that this single initiative has had on thousands of women and children. One of the most important, and sometimes challenging, things when growing up is always remembering that we should treat others as we would wish to be treated. All our Senior Students had an opportunity to work as House groups and reflect on the positive attributes of their peers. Each student was asked to write an affirmation for four members of their House and these were put together to create a lovely booklet filled with compliments and kind words. The smiles on the students’ faces after this session were an inspiration to all House staff. We also celebrated Emirati Children’s Day this term, during which students discussed what rights children should have across the world and how the UAE protects and cares for its youngest residents.
Finally, all of the Senior School chose their colour mood and dressed up to celebrate International Happiness Day. This year there was a particular focus on mental health and how we as individuals can overcome challenges that we may face in our lives.
