Enriching student life

A big part of our school life at NLCS Dubai is the ever expanding range of ECAs that are on offer, and notably the Junior and Senior Societies. We were delighted to now be an authorised centre for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award: an internationally recognised programme that gives great opportunities for personal growth and is a definite plus on students’ CVs.

The Junior and Senior Societies have continued to provide a platform through which to expand our students’ knowledge outside of the curriculum, with visits from industry professionals in a host of sectors: including Architecture, Aviation (this one was in French!), Psychology (this one involved blindfolds!) and even a live video link-up with a clinic in rural Pakistan through a charity initiative with Midland Doctors.

Our students have been participating in the World Scholar’s Cup, Model United Nations and Dubai Debate League and all had an exceptional end to the year, with MUN hosting their first conference here at the School and the Junior and Senior debating teams both being promoted to Division 1 for next year.

An extra-curricular programme that caters for the teachers, as well as the students, is the Monday lunchtime Nicholson Lectures. There is an inspiring wealth of knowledge within our school, and it has been wonderful to hear these presentations delivered so passionately by our staff. We are in the process of cataloguing all the talks and these will be available on video and / or Powerpoint if ever you are in need of inspiration on any topic.

The Nicholson Lectures took a break as the school community turned its attention to the Holy Month of Ramadan. The Islamic Department played a key role in celebrating and educating us about the Holy Month, via activities in lessons and assemblies right across the School. The “month of giving” tied-in with the Dubai Cares Philanthropy Awards at which our students were highly commended for their contribution, with a special mention for our ‘Kindness Mural’.
