In November, seventeen of our students travelled with Mrs. Tayfour, Mr. May and Miss Shah to Singapore to take part in the ThiMUN 2019 conference. Model United Nations is a popular ECA at School in which students are asked to represent certain nations whilst creating propositions, amendments and debates on a variety of contemporary issues. Before conference commenced the students (and their teachers) has lots of fun exploring the exciting rides at Universal Studios Singapore before returning to the hotel for some last minute preparation for conference.
This year ThiMUN was again held at the Hwa Chong Institute in Singapore, a sprawling campus ordinarily housing over 4000 students, so the first challenge facing our delegations was how to find where they needed to be! After the opening ceremony, the sessions began with students submitting propositions to the chairs and working alongside students from all over Asia and The Middle East to galvanize their arguments ready for the fierce debates!
Our students worked incredibly hard during the conference days and in the evenings, they managed to do a little bit of sightseeing. A boat trip around Marina Bay Sands and the visit to Gardens by the bay were two highlights of the visit. As the conference came to a close all of our students were busy connecting with their new friends on social media before enjoying the delegate social at The Orchid Country Club.
Travelling to ThiMUN Singapore not only was an opportunity to experience the intense environment of a major Model United Nations conference but also a chance to meet new friends along the way. Our delegation even had the opportunity to visit the site of the new NLCS Singapore and meet staff who will be setting up our fourth member of the NLCS family!
